CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) programs are agreements between farmers and local community members in which payment for shares of the entire season’s harvest is made at the beginning of the season. Through the CSA model, a small farm is able to create working capital, before the season starts, to help it purchase production materials such as seeds, fertilizers, tools, infrastructure etc.
A CSA share includes a mixed assortment of fresh produce that is harvested as it becomes available in the garden. Shares cannot be personalized. Members can purchase additional items or order in bulk depending on availability.
Our vegetable growing season in South Florida is around 5 months (late November through early April). There will be 20 CSA share pickup weeks. Members or a designated party agree to pickup their share at the farm on designated pickup days only.
There will be no refunds after November 1, 2018. There will be no refunds or makeup shares for missed pickups or abandoned shares unless 48 hr notice is given.
Veggies are grown with organic practices, extra care, and intention for the most holistic food production possible. It is the top priority of this farm to offer fresh, nutrient dense veggies, free of chemical pesticides or synthetic fertilizers.
There is a shared risk with CSA programs. Crop failure, although rare, may occur with different crops throughout the season. Should this happen, the farm agrees to fill shares with more of the crops that are available; this may result in varying share sizes or diversity. Members are aware of this shared risk and agree.
Abundant harvest is also shared. If there is a great harvest of different crops then CSA members will have preference to purchase extra produce and more food will be included in their share.
Example of CSA Share:
½ lb salad mix
1 head lettuce
1 bunch kale
1 bunch dandelion
1 bunch beets
1 bunch radishes
2 bunch herbs
A tentative list of crops the farm will grow throughout the season:
As mentioned in the agreement, the contents of the share will change throughout the season. Earlier in the season faster crops like greens, radishes, and turnips will be more abundant. Longer season crops like carrots, celery, and tomatoes mature later in the season.
There may be times in the season where some veggies are available but not enough for all the shares. These items can be purchased separately during the pick up of the main share.
Pickup Days will be Fridays and Saturdays beginning on Nov 23 and 24, 2018 through April 5 and 6, 2019. The Farm will notify members at least 2 weeks in advance if pick up days need to change for any reason.
CSA share prices:
- Full Season (regular) – 20 pickups – $35/share = $700 (paid in full)
